Teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.
This class will be spread out over 2 days. As part of this class we will spend approximately 7 hours on the range and fire 200-250 rounds as part of this class.
Prerequisite: This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation. Firearm safety should always be followed but it is an absolute must in this class. We will be drawing loaded handguns from holsters, reloading loaded handguns, shooting and moving, shooting from awkward positions, turning and shooting, and much more.
Required equipment: A semi-automatic pistol in 9mm or larger caliber or double action revolver in 38 Special or larger is strongly recommended for this class. You will need at least 2 magazines for semi-automatics. It is strongly recommended that revolver shooters have speedloaders for their revolver. Magazines and speedloaders can be stored in pockets or a holster on the belt. You will need a strong side hip holster or purse holster. These are the only 2 types of holsters allowed in this class. You will need a cover garment if using a hip holster.
If you have completed the Personal Protection In the Home class this is the next class in the NRA lineup. This is bound to be a fun class with lots of range time!
We strongly recommend that you do not wear loose fitting tops while shooting. We also recommend that you do wear a hat with a brim while shooting in class. NO open toed shoes allowed on the range!
