WISE Handgun Fundamentals

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

This is an 8+ hour course.  Students will shoot at least 50 rounds of ammunition. Compact and subcompact firearms are not recommended for brand new shooters learning the fundamentals. A full size handgun and/or a 22lr handgun will make this a more enjoyable experience and allow you to focus on the fundamentals rather than fighting excessive recoil and building bad habits. 

It includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.  Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.  Students will take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Examination, and will receive a course completion certificate.

We use this course as the first 8 hours of training towards the 16 hours required to obtain your Illinois Concealed Carry permit.  This is an outstanding course for beginners as well as
seasoned shooters – all of our students are impressed by all there is to learn in this course.  Completion of this course also qualifies you to apply for a Florida Concealed Carry Permit.

We strongly recommend that you do not wear loose fitting tops while shooting. We also recommend that you do wear a hat with a brim while shooting in class. NO open toed shoes allowed on the range.
